COURSES ON OFFER
# GS Economy
This General Studies (GS) course covers all topics on Economics and Indian Economy for Prelim and Main (spread across GS papers 1, 2, 3 & 4, and Essay paper) and Interview of the Civil Services Exam (CSE) conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Naturally, the course covers the various state public service exams too.
Increased importance of economics/economy:
Economics has always been a vital segment of general studies, meanwhile, the rise and increased acceptance of 'behavioural economics' has made it an over-arching subject. Not only this, India's foreign policy has become 'economic diplomacy' which is an applied extension of economics. These changes have impacted the CSE in the following ways:
MAIN EXAM: We find around 20 questions (i.e., 1/4th) of the total number of 80 questions being asked on economics (this can be matched with the Civil Services Exams of 2023 and 2024 too).
PRELIMINARY EXAM: We find upto 45-50 questions out of a total of 100 questions asked on economics- if economic geography is included the number crosses even 65-70.
INTERVIEW: At the level of personality test, many a times the interview begins with economics and ends with it!
CAUTION: Knowing economics is not enough to solve questions of economics in preliminary exams or develop the right answers in main exam. For this one needs to develop a proper 'understanding' of economics- the art which is normally lacking among aspirants (this is why even gold medalists and top rankers of academic institutions and universities are fetching very average marks in all four papers of the General Studies).
Surprisingly, one does not need to be 'an economist' to understand economics- it can be understood by just anybody! Either one needs to do it by oneself (which many aspirants do) or get help of a good teacher.
